Health Education
Entepesi Kenya (EK) believes that knowledge is a powerful tool for prevention, early detection, and responsible health choices. Through its Health Education Program, EK reaches both school environments and the broader community with relevant, age-appropriate, and culturally sensitive health information.
School-Based Health Education
EK currently implements health education programs in both primary and secondary schools, with a strong focus on:
- Sexual and Reproductive Health
- Menstrual Hygiene Management
- Mental Health Awareness
Each module is designed to be age-appropriate, ensuring learners receive information that is understandable, relevant, and empowering for their developmental stage.
To support structured and effective delivery, EK—in partnership with health professionals, county government officers, and medical specialists—has developed a set of comprehensive training manuals, including:
- Primary School Health Education Manual
- Secondary School Health Education Manual
- Diabetes Community Dialogue Guide
- Hypertension Community Dialogue Guide
- Women’s Health Education Manual
Additional specialized resources include:
- Traditional Birth Attendants Training Manual
- Cervical Cancer Awareness Toolkit
- Leadership Manual for Hospital Workers
As part of its commitment to supporting adolescent girls and young mothers, this program also facilitates sanitary pad donations to those in need, ensuring dignity and continuity in education.
The long-term vision is to establish health clubs in schools where students can continue to learn, engage in peer-to-peer education, and develop into health advocates for their families and communities.
Community Health Dialogues
These dialogues are conducted in collaboration with community health volunteers, trained facilitators, and healthcare providers to ensure local ownership and relevance. EK intergrates health dialogues through initiatiating conversations during day -to -day commninity social activities in gatherings such as in commnity chamma meetings, chief barazas, church gatherings and events . This concludes with screenings for NCDs and HIV/AIDS
Beyond schools, EK engages local communities through structured health dialogues designed to raise awareness about:
- Common and chronic diseases
- Nutrition and hygiene
- Maternal and child health
- Preventive care and behavioral change
Medical & Nutrition Outreach
Entepesi Kenya (EK) is committed to advancing community health and well-being, implementing integrated medical outreach programs across Kajiado County and other underserved areas of Kenya. These outreaches are a strategic response to urgent healthcare needs and function as a key community entry point for engaging with marginalized populations and identifying deeper, underlying social and health challenges.
Entepesi Kenya (EK) is committed to advancing community health and well-being, implementing integrated medical outreach programs across Kajiado County and other underserved areas of Kenya. These outreaches are a strategic response to urgent healthcare needs and function as a key community entry point for engaging with marginalized populations and identifying deeper, underlying social and health challenges
Why Medical Outreaches?
Access to healthcare in many rural and hard-to-reach areas in Kenya remains limited. Communities face significant barriers, including: Long distances to health facilities, Poor road infrastructure, a severe shortage of healthcare workers, with a disproportionately high doctor- and nurse-to-population ratio, high cost of treatment in private facilities and frequent stock-outs in public health centers, limited health literacy contributes to delayed treatment, self-medication, and avoidable complications.
For many of these communities, Entepesi Kenya’s medical outreaches are the only available opportunities to access critical health services such as: Vaccination and immunization, Family planning, Preventive screening, General diagnosis and treatment
During these events, EK has often encountered individuals in dire and urgent medical conditions—some of whom required immediate transfer to the nearest hospital, sometimes as far as 60 kilometers away, to receive life-saving care.
Scope of Services
Through partnerships with the Ministry of Health, local and foreign medical professionals, and community health volunteers, Entepesi Kenya delivers a package of essential services, including:
-
Diagnosis and treatment of common illnesses, Vaccination and immunization
-
Family planning services
-
Preventive screenings (e.g., hypertension, cervical and breast cancer)
-
Health education and behavioral change communication
-
Referral and follow-up for specialized care
These services are provided free of charge during outreaches, helping families who otherwise cannot afford care or travel costs.
Nutrition Intervention
Entepesi Kenya (EK) addresses critical malnutrition in Kajiado South, where poverty, drought, and reliance on livestock leave over 20% of residents at risk of food-related health issues. Among children under five, stunting is 25.3%, underweight 22.5%, wasting 5%, and only 44% of infants are exclusively breastfed. Pregnant women’s iron/folic acid uptake is just 37.9%.
EK responds with targeted food distributions during medical outreaches, prioritizing malnourished children and pregnant/lactating mothers. Partnering with health facilities, EK provides Ready-to-Use Therapeutic/Supplementary Foods, fortified cereals, nutrient supplements, and micronutrient powders to aid recovery and prevent relapse.
Through logistical support—transportation, stipends, and field coordination—EK ensures that even remote families receive timely, life-saving nutrition aid.
Capacity Building
Capacity Building Medical outreaches also serve as a learning and service platform for students and volunteers: Entepesi Kenya has signed Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with local and international institutions to host student internships and clinical attachments, allowing learners to gain field experience in rural healthcare.
Volunteers, both skilled and unskilled, find the outreaches to be a rewarding way to contribute meaningfully to communities during their free time. These opportunities promote knowledge exchange, cultural learning, and the development of a new generation of empathetic, community-oriented health professionals.
1. Scholarships for Future Health Professionals
As part of its long-term vision for homegrown solutions to local challenges, EK offers scholarships to deserving and needy students from local communities pursuing health-related degrees and diplomas. By supporting bright, motivated youth—particularly those already engaged in EK’s programs or who come from communities served by its outreaches—EK aims to cultivate a generation of locally rooted health workers who understand the context, culture, and unique needs of the population.
This investment builds sustainability into EK’s programming and helps reduce dependence on external personnel in the long run.
2. Professional Development in Health Facilities
Within hospitals and health centers, EK implements targeted professional development sessions designed to strengthen the workplace environment and quality of service delivery. These sessions cover key areas such as: Leadership and ethics in healthcare, Customer service and patient-centered care, Conflict resolution and team dynamics, Effective communication and accountability
These trainings not only support clinical staff but are also tailored for Community Health Workers (CHWs), who play a crucial frontline role in EK’s community health outreach programs.
The goal is to cultivate a culture of professionalism, compassion, and teamwork—core values essential to an efficient and trusted health system.
3. Internships and Visiting Lectureships
Entepesi Kenya’s network of local and international partners includes training institutions and universities, with which it collaborates to facilitate:
-
Student internships in community health, clinical services, and public health outreach
-
Visiting lectureships, where guest professionals and lecturers engage local practitioners, health volunteers, and students through teaching, mentorship, and hands-on sessions
These programs promote knowledge exchange, expose local practitioners to global best practices, and create space for cross-cultural learning and innovation.
Forward Care
Entepesi Kenya’s preventive and forward care approach represents a full-spectrum model of community health through: Educating to equip individuals with knowledge to make informed decisions, Screening to detect diseases early through accessible, decentralized services, Prevention through delivering vaccinations, family planning, and health education, Referal and Treatment by Connecting patients to care, ensuring no one is left behind and Empowering through training local practitioners and volunteers to lead change from within
Through this model, EK continues to transform health outcomes across Kajiado and beyond, offering not just care but a pathway to a healthier future.
One Health & Sustainability
Entepesi Kenya (EK) recognizes that health does not exist in isolation. The well-being of individuals is closely interconnected with their environment, animals, and the systems that sustain daily life. Guided by the One Health Approach, EK implements integrated programs that address the broader determinants of health—ensuring that people, animals, and the environment thrive together.
1. WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) Projects
Access to clean water and proper sanitation is fundamental to disease prevention and health promotion. In collaboration with partner organizations, EK implements WASH projects aimed at:
-
Improving access to safe drinking water
-
Promoting hygiene education and practices within schools and communities
-
Constructing or rehabilitating latrines and handwashing stations
-
Supporting schools and households with menstrual hygiene resources
These interventions are often integrated into EK’s medical outreaches and school health programs to amplify impact and reduce waterborne diseases.
2. Environmental Health and Sustainability
EK addresses environmental issues that have a direct impact on health, including:
-
Deforestation and land degradation, which threaten food security and water availability
-
Improper waste disposal, which contributes to disease transmission
-
Climate change exacerbates drought and health emergencies
To promote long-term community resilience, EK supports sustainability projects, such as:
-
Community-led tree planting initiatives
-
Promotion of clean cooking technologies
-
School-based environmental education and action clubs
-
These projects aim to foster environmental stewardship while contributing to improved health outcomes and sustainable livelihoods.
3. Outbreak Preparedness and Response
As part of its One Health mandate, EK partners with other organizations to respond to zoonotic disease outbreaks—diseases that pass between animals and humans. One such example is EK’s collaboration in rabies prevention and control campaigns, which include:
-
Vaccination of domestic animals
-
Community sensitization on animal bites and treatment
-
Referral and follow-up of exposed individuals
This integrated effort ensures that human and animal health sectors work together, reducing preventable deaths and promoting holistic public health.
